There is a significant amount of cross country skiing (ski de fond) in Le Grand Bornand. Grand Bornand produced several olympians and is justly proud of there achievements, one silver and a bronze medal in the last olympics. There are 2 areas that you can do this locally, one the vallee Bouchet of 20+km and one in chinaillon of 12+km. It is also possible to ski over the Lac de Confins in La Clusaz. The vallee Bouchet also has facilities to do Biathlon.

There is nordic and skating possible in most areas and the piste (is the correct for cross country!) are always well prepared. There are several other places close by, the plataeu de Glieres(30mins), La Clusaz(20mins) and Manigod(25mins) which looks beautiful when I skied past it recently. So there is plenty of choice of location and types of activity, there are also, for the more adventurous half and full marathon races in most of these locations during the year.
