Flora and Fauna from the Area

Back to Summer
Well its mainly Flora as most of the birds and animals won't stay still long enough for me to get a decent photo.  All the photos here at the moment where taken on a 1 hour walk on the Cole de Columbiere.

The rarest attraction on a world scale is the Lammergeyer (Gypiate Barbarus) who have several nests nearby and can regularly be seen in the area.  I have had a Lammergeyer pass over me whilst traveling up the Lachat lift within about 20-30 yards, close enough to see the ginger underside.  There is also many golden eagles equally impressive and commonly seen hunting on the meadows behind the chalet.  Other birds commonly seen are the buzzard, the black redstart, choughs and wagtails, I have had reports of there being Red Kites and of Imperial eagles though I can't vouch for these later 2.  There are I am sure many others and when I can identify them (or they stay still and close enough for me to do so I will update the site.

On the animal front the most easily seen are the Ibex and the Marmots.

There are many Alpine flowers which will be familiar to many in their own gardens.  There are several saxifrages, semperiverums, 4 types of violets that I have seen, 2 types of gentians with incredible deep blue flowers, several types of daisies, verbascum, rhododendrons (for those athletic enough to find them), several orchids, auriculars (yellow) and primulas.  Also whilst out for a run I came across a bank of white anemones which were incredible - no pictures of these yet as I don't carry the camera whilst running.
