Grand Bornand is a typical Savoie market town with a lovely church and stunning scenery, the market is still held in the square every Wednesday morning. There is also an ice rink and buses into Cluzas or the lovely city of Annecy for those who like to explore the area.
The village of Chinaillon is in the commune of Grand Bornand but a further 8.5 km up the mountain, where the skiing is. There is a free ski bus up and down to Grand Bornand so travelling is not a problem. Chinaillon is a small typically French village where development has been strictly limited by the Mayor in order to preserve its character. As residents we are very pleased about this and believe it all helps to make your holiday a pleasant one.
The village has many shops selling snow gear and traditional Savoyard produce, generally anything with red hearts on it, sausages and the local reblouchon cheese! There are also restaurants and for après ski, several bars at the bottom of the slopes, with one conveniently situated opposite our chalet. However, it is only open for the early evening so there is no need to worry about being kept awake into the early hours. For those of you like being kept awake there are several bars a short walk from our chalet.
There are 2 ski schools, a local one which employs English speaking instructors and meets opposite our chalet and the ESF which meets nearby. We use a nearby ski hire shop who are also on piste should you wish to try out different skis/boards during your stay, they are very friendly and helpful as well as being the cheapest in the village.
We will happily help you arrange classes and/ or equipment hire when you arrive and as the lift passes are purchased nearby as well there will be no delays getting you out on your first day. We have been skiing for many years and for those of you who are happy without classes we can provide a tour of the slopes so you can get to know the area and try our favourite runs.
